Eye exams

A full exam of how your eyes focus and how healthy they are

For adults who want clear vision at work and a regular check on their eye health.

The exam measures your prescription, how your eyes work together up close, and the health of the front and back of each eye. Dr. Saunders goes through what she found at the end, and you leave with a copy of your prescription.

What the doctor looks at

  • Your prescription for distance, near and the distance of your screen

  • How your eyes focus and work together

  • The front of each eye, including how well it keeps itself wet

  • The back of each eye, with imaging or a dilated check when it is needed

The visit

What happens, step by step

A routine exam takes about 45 minutes.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Check in

Leilani confirms your plan and tells you what it is expected to cover.

Tracy measures how well you see and the pressure and shape of your eyes.

  3. 03

Step 3: Your work and your eyes

The doctor asks how you use your eyes, then measures at those distances.

  4. 04

    Step 4: The health check

A look at the front and back of each eye, so changes are found early.

  5. 05

    Step 5: Before you leave

A copy of your prescription, a plain summary and the next visit if you need one.

Billing and what to bring

  • How it is billed

A routine exam goes to your vision plan. If you also come in about a problem, that part goes to medical insurance. How fees work explains each case.

    How fees work
  • What to bring

    • Your current glasses and contact lenses

    • Your vision and medical insurance cards

    • A list of your eye drops and medicines

    • A note of how far your screen sits from your eyes

About the exam

Do I need an exam if I see fine?

Many eye conditions cause no change in your vision at first, and glasses are only one reason to come. An exam checks how your eyes focus and how healthy they are, so it is worth having on a regular schedule even when everything looks sharp.

How often should I have an eye exam?

Dr. Saunders sets the schedule with you at the end of each visit. It depends on your age, your prescription, your health and how you use your eyes. Most adults come once a year or every other year.

Can I fill my prescription somewhere else?

Yes. Your prescription is yours. We give you a copy after your exam and fitting, and you can fill it anywhere, online or in a shop.
